At The Columbus Team, we are more than just a team of dedicated real estate professionals—we are a family committed to making a difference in our community. This year, we are incredibly proud to support one of our own, Patrick Florence, as he once again takes on the challenge of the Pelotonia Ride to raise funds for cancer research.
What is Pelotonia?
Pelotonia is an annual cycling event that brings together thousands of riders, volunteers, and supporters with one shared goal: to end cancer. Participants can choose from various routes, ranging from 20 to 200 miles, depending on their cycling ability and commitment level. The funds raised through Pelotonia go directly to innovative cancer research at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute.
Patrick’s Journey
This isn’t Patrick’s first Pelotonia. With a passion for cycling and a heart dedicated to philanthropy, he has participated in the ride for several years. Each ride, he pushes himself to new limits, inspired by the stories of those affected by cancer and driven by the hope of a future free from this devastating disease.
Reflecting on a past ride, Patrick wrote, “It is so incredible to see the level of support from riders, corporate sponsors, volunteers, and communities with people lining the streets with posters and signs of loved ones that have been affected by cancer. Each year, something memorable touches me deeply. In 2019, it was riding through Old Pickerington, where motorcycles lined up, and their owners revved them up to a thundering roar in support of Pelotonia. It brought chills over me as we passed by; it was soooo cool!”
Patrick rides with a team called CC-Love Out Loud & Shut Up and Ride. This team was formed in honor of Chris Collaros, a beloved friend, educator, and musician who supported their Pelotonia fundraising efforts before passing away from stage 4 cancer. Chris’s involvement and spirit live on through the team’s dedication to the cause.
Originally named “Shut Up and Ride,” the team’s name was inspired by Stacey’s friend Belinda, who was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer. Despite her diagnosis, Belinda trained for the first Pelotonia and would motivate Stacey with the phrase, “Shut Up and Ride.” Belinda passed away after the first Pelotonia, but her legacy continues to inspire the team.
