Yes, that’s right, take even your small ones caving! Caves are cool in every sense of the word. Underground it stays cool and damp all summer long, the perfect place to visit to get out of the sticky Central Ohio summertime heat. If you’re looking for an adventure, consider exploring the Olentangy Indian Caverns! They’re also fascinating. The whole family will ‘ooh’ and ‘ahhh’ over the stalactites and stalagmites. And the cave is well-lit and mapped, and a guide takes you through it. It’s spelunking the safe and easy way!
Offering tours and nature trails in and around the naturally formed caves and caverns, the Olentangy Indian Caverns are a natural Central Ohio wonder. Formed over thousands of years of erosion from an underwater river, the caverns are a beautiful natural feature worth seeing. Tours of the caverns last around 40 minutes, and are led by trained guides.
Used by Wyandotte Indians long before the white man’s explorers first reached the area, tours include information on local ancient tribes as well as natural history information about the formation of the caverns, and white settler history.
Don’t forget to visit the small brick museum which houses artifacts collected from the caverns and property, too.
For admission rates and hours, check their website. Unfortunately, due to the natural setting and features of the caverns and trails, they are not fully ADA accessible, if you have questions about accessibility, call 740-548-7917.
Open daily 10am – 6pm.
