Annual Furniture Bank Bed Race Wrap Up

At The Columbus Team, we’re all about finding dream homes, but we also believe that everyone deserves a place they can call home. That’s why we were thrilled to be part of the 2023 Furniture Bank Bed Race held at Easton Town Center on Saturday, October 14. This exciting event wasn’t just about racing beds; it was about racing to make a real difference in the lives of those in need in our community.

Beds, Wheels, and a Whole Lot of Heart at the Furniture Bank Bed Race

The Furniture Bank of Central Ohio has a powerful mission – helping Central Ohio families facing various challenges, from house fires and homelessness to unemployment, domestic violence, and more. They provide essential furniture to families who have lost nearly everything, making sure they have the comforts of home as they rebuild their lives.

The Bed Race was an unforgettable day of high-energy, where teams raced specially designed beds on wheels. Style was essential, but speed was the name of the game. And it’s a good thing that Columbus Team members are known for both their real estate expertise and their sprinting skills, as we sponsored and managed the Kids Zone at the event. Our Kids Zone featured face painting, big wheel races, creative activities, and games, providing even more fun for participants and their families.

A Rainy Start, But a Sunny Outcome

As excited as we were to participate, the day got off to a bit of a wet start due to the unpredictable October weather. But even a little rain couldn’t dampen our spirits, and once things cleared up, the event was an enormous success.

The Real Impact of Your Support

The Furniture Bank uses monetary and furniture donations to help those in our community who are struggling. Many of these families have experienced the trauma of losing their homes, possessions, and sometimes even their hope. As The Columbus Team helps clients find their dream homes every day, we are humbled to be part of an event that helps families create a place they can call home.

The Furniture Bank serves approximately 80 families each week, and 95% of these families earn $24,000 a year or less. They distribute over 1,000 furniture pieces every week, with a significant focus on providing beds. After all, no child should ever have to sleep on a cold, hard floor.

The Numbers Speak Volumes

Since 2016, the Bed Race has achieved some impressive statistics:

• Over 500 racers and supporters have joined in the fun.
• More than $150,000 has been raised to help Central Ohio families.
• The Furniture Bank has restored hope in over 600 homes through this annual event.

But it doesn’t stop there. You can still make a difference by donating monetarily or providing furniture. Every contribution ensures that more children and families in need can sleep soundly in their beds.
